When you measure for office desks, you do want to start by measuring the space from wall to wall. Then you can also measure the other items that you want to put into the room. You may not think you need to consider small items like a trash can or standing lamp, but if these are needed in room and will make a footprint on the floor, they should be considered.
Sketch It Out
After measuring the room, you will then want to draw a rough sketch of the space. You will want to draw the room as well as other items in question. Then, consider the size and placement of the office desks. You may find that it's easier to make a paper cutout of the desk and move it around in various positions on top of the sketch of the room so that you can see where the best placement would be.
Point to Keep In Mind
As you sketch out a rough draft layout for your new office desks, there are a few important things you want to keep in mind. First, if a computer will be used on the desk, as is often the case, you will not want to plan on pushing the desk flat against the wall. In fact, you may need to leave four to six inches of clearance between the desk and the wall. This is a significant amount of space, so you do want to include it in your plans. Then, consider other factors like how far the drawers of the desk pull out and how much clearance any cabinets in the desk will need. Then, make sure to consider foot traffic in the room, too. This will help you to determine if you need look at different desks than the ones you are currently considering.
